38. Being Equal

Whilst watching people’s interactions, I observed, that when we constantly look up to others, it gives us a crick in the neck! When we look down at people, it makes us arrogant. Either way, this feels quite unhealthy. The best interactions seem to be amongst equals where we look each other straight in the eye. However, this is not a frequent occurrence. I wonder why?

We all inherit every personality trait that is rife in human nature. Some traits are admirable and others we prefer not to admit exist, especially in ourselves!  To put anyone on a pedestal would be doing them a disservice. Sooner or later, we will be disappointed in equal measure and then they will descend into the pits in our estimation.  By idolising anyone, we also ignore our own potential. Yet, this is something we are not made aware of as we grow and develop.

When most of us are able to view a leader and a common person with equal respect, (seeing beyond their outer achievements and facades,) that will be the time when we will be able to see eye to eye, not up or down. Imagine a world where we can see the unique and true essence of each other. Then, harmony and peace amongst us would be inevitable. As the famous saying goes, ‘Be the change we want to see’, so it starts with me!
