22. Don’t shoot the Messenger!

Recently a family member sent a couple of interesting, thought provoking messages on social media. I overheard another member making a snide remark about the sender. This brought on a light bulb moment. So often a very pertinent message gets shot down just because we may not hold a high enough opinion of the sender. Isn’t the nugget in the message more important than the messenger?

Many times I have experienced guidance that is given to me through different sources. When we are looking for answers to a problem these can arrive in many guises. It could be through overhearing someone else’s conversation and something clicks for us…even some lyrics from a song can trigger a clue. A news headline could provide further thoughts that lead us to a solution. These days, it’s more likely to come from social media. This, of course, can only occur when we are open to the messages that are being beamed to us!

I know I have lost the gem of a beautiful message when I have thought, ‘why don’t they practice what they consider so special that they forward it on’?’  In this process I have missed out on something that could have been very relevant and useful to me.  Now, with this awareness, I find myself beginning to focus more on the content and its meaning rather than being influenced by its sender! As a result, I find that the guidance is flowing much more easily and frequently than ever before!
