My inner compass setting must be on the happy channel; I have a tendency to first focus on the positive aspects of most situations. However, this can irritate those around me who want to temporarily indulge in a dark cloud. I too, do go through these experiences myself and that is when I need a reset. A strategy I use is to recall one of my work colleague’s comment. I was once bemoaning a dull and miserable rainy day and he said, “It is only liquid sunshine”. My perspective has changed ever since.
Experiencing contrasting phases in life, wherein some situations sap us of energy and some re-vitalise us, is common. Most of the time, I can shift my moods because I have made it a priority to maintain a cheery, sunny outlook on life. I prefer to believe that ‘it is what it is’, so don’t get sucked into the drama of emotions, acknowledging and accepting whatever shows up. Recently though, I wound up in anxiety land when my husband caught a severe case of the flu and he thought it could be something more serious. It was a good lesson to remind myself to find solutions in helping in his recovery, in the meantime understanding that he was just a poor patient. It was his time to experience what it feels like to become vulnerable!
It is so comforting to remember that the Sun never stops to shine and remains steadily in its position. As night falls, it is evidenced through the moon, which mirrors and reflects the Sun’s light. Similarly, why not trust in the knowledge that when we encounter dark clouds, the rain can be as soft as liquid sunshine pouring down its energy through another shape – nourishing our needs in a different form.
