43. Orientation

Recently, I heard an interesting podcast on the navigation tools available to us, that have led to profound changes in our lives. For eons we have been taught our four cardinal directions based on the two poles and the rotation of the Earth revolving around its axis. We know that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.  This has been enough to help us locate our position in relation to our surroundings, using a compass and the stars as our guide. The last couple of decades however, have completely changed our orientation. Now the starting point is not our geographical location, but us.

The GPS technology has allowed the whole Earth to be mapped and available for our use, in tools, that fit into the palm of our hands. As we move, the orientation of our position moves with us. Whether we are walking or driving, we are directed to turn right, left or go straight ahead. As a result, our brain learns to operate differently. With this change in our thinking, I wonder how it will alter our personalities.  As we become the centre and beginning point of all our movements, will this alter how we find our bearings and hence our perspective?

We may even relax into the understanding that how we experience this world is truly from our inner compass. Being hooked to the outer wireless connection may not be the only signal that could be relevant. When more of us are ready to experience beyond the physical, we could be paving our way to connect to each other in a deeper sense, using energetic signals that are not yet commonly understood.
