69. The Spark Within

“What do you see when you look at me” was a thought-provoking title of a museum exhibition that I had seen some years ago. On entering this gallery, under the text there was a large mirror that invited the visitor to look at themselves and any other person in its reflection. This clever prompt startled one to take a conscious longer look at themselves! It was interesting to observe people’s varying reactions to seeing themselves in a public mirror.

Mostly, we form opinions within seconds of seeing someone based on superficial characteristics such as the colour of their skin, their facial features, their body shape and how they hold themselves. After this initial impression, we may begin to consider other deeper aspects like their clothing, confidence, personality and finally even go a step further to focus on their energy field. These days, whenever I am out with my white cane, people perhaps see a person with disability and someone who needs help. As a result, I often encounter compassionate kindness directed towards me! Isn’t it interesting how human behaviour is influenced by outer perceptions?

Once we look beyond the surface and focus on the uniqueness of each individual without comparison, it becomes possible to see their inner genius. This is exactly what I have now learnt to do with my sight loss. It is known that there is an intelligent life-force that exists within each of us which comes from the same universal energy centre that is the source of all creation. Yet a conscious awareness of this spark of life that animates us is mostly ignored. In reality, it is through our inter-connectivity within this universal quantum field, that we find aligned synchronicities occurring in our lives. Once we recognise this possibility, it may become easier to acknowledge our true nature … as a divine spiritual being, in part having a human experience.
