75. On purpose

As I stand contemplating in my garden on a balmy summer’s day, I am reminded of the parable of two water pots. Every morning, a woman from a village went to a nearby river to fill her two pots of water. After a few months, one of the pots developed a hole. This made this pot feel very unworthy and after a while, shame-faced, asked the woman, why was she still using it, even when it could no longer carry as much water as the other pot? At this, she stopped and showed both the water pots the path they walked every day. It soon became obvious that just one side of the path had beautiful flowers growing alongside it. She reassured the pot with a hole that it was only because of its leak, that that side of the path was watered, resulting in such flourishing beauty.

It is worth remembering that our life is always on purpose. Every challenge or what we may consider a flaw has a reason to be present. Like the pot that developed a hole, my gradual sight-loss has changed how I serve and evolve in my life. By remaining a conduit for the higher intelligence in my therapy practice, (something I may never have embraced prior to my vision loss), seems to have born greater fruit. Could this mean that when we encounter any set-backs and accept changes, when viewed through the long lens, may reveal a valuable and worthwhile journey?

Though at short range, the frustrations and difficulties can feel unending, step by step, day by day, we are moulded into a new way of being. Whether becoming better or bitter is heavily influenced by our thoughts, beliefs and acceptance. Consider that it is from this laboratory of our mind where all the alchemy of intentions and expectations create our experiences…the result is always on purpose!
