76. Singing a Duet

I wonder why I am observing increased turmoil in many people’s lives. From the tone of their voices, it is easy enough to hear irritation, impatience and sometimes down right rudeness in their communication. This makes me turn inward and check where I am on this scale! Could I be absorbing this unpleasant energy and mimicking this sound too? After all, it is known that energies entrain when in close proximity.

I am reminded of a renowned Sufi poet, Rumi, who wrote a story of a conversation between a cave and the sun and their life experiences. Not being able to understand how they each lived, they invited the other to visit their abode. When the sun came to visit the cave, it found only light and could not understand why the cave had been complaining of living in complete darkness. Then the cave came up to visit the sun and discovered that in such brightness there was no space for its own darkness. However, most of us cannot reside exclusively in either of these spaces.

To bring harmony and balance to our daily life, there needs to be a right blend of the deeper dark notes and light over-tones. Perhaps this is why we each have a unique signature of sound, dependent on how the music is being played. Imagine singing a duet with the wisdom of your higher intelligence. No doubt it could take a lot of practice before we may hear a melody we could grow to love… which in turn, could influence others to do the same.
